Here’s what you’ll need to make the microwave chocolate cake

For the cake:

  • 150 grams of all-purpose flour
  • 100 grams of granulated sugar
  • 90 grams unsalted butter (melted)
  • 60 grams of cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons of yeast
  • 380 milliliters of hot water

For the chocolate ganache filling:

  • 150 grams of dark chocolate
  • 150 milliliters heavy cream

If you want to make this dish vegan, Head said you can substitute vegetable oil for the melted butter and use dairy-free chocolate frosting for the top.

Here’s how to make chocolate cake in the microwave

First, add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder and baking powder to a bowl and whisk together until combined. Then add the melted butter and lukewarm water and whisk until the mixture is smooth.

Pour the mixture into a 7-inch microwave-safe dish and heat the batter in the microwave for five to six minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Head recommends checking out the cake when you have a minute left. Allow your cake to cool completely in the pan before removing it.

“There shouldn’t be any wet dough visible,” Head said. “If so, continue to microwave in 30-second increments until a toothpick comes out clean.”

While your cake is cooling, combine your dark chocolate and heavy cream and microwave for a minute. Stir ganache filling until smooth.

Gently turn the cake upside down on a plate. Pour your ganache filling over the cooled cake and smooth it all the way to the edges. And just like that, you’re ready to eat!

“It’s super moist and the dark chocolate ganache filling makes it so rich and chocolatey,” Head said. “And this cake isn’t too sweet or too heavy, so feel free to play around with the toppings to make it your own.”

“You can swap the ganache topping for Nutella or another chocolate spread, or top it with a buttercream icing of your choice,” she added.
