A 2021 survey by the National Confectioners Association claims that 84% of Americans think chocolate and candy are a fun part of special celebrations, including Valentine’s Day, while 87% of Americans enjoy chocolate and candy seasonal Valentine’s Day.
When asked how they select a treat from a box of Valentine’s Day chocolates, 50% of Americans said they found the “card” and carefully chose one, 31% said they had one picked one at random, 13% of people said they bite into the corner to determine the filling and only 6% of respondents bite into the bottom to find out the flavor.
In a box of Valentine’s Day chocolates, people say they’re looking for:
- 32% – caramel
- 24% – chocolate covered nuts
- 21% – filled with chocolate
- 11% – cream filled
- 9% – coconut
- 3% – other
